World Quilting Travel Adventure - Your boarding pass is here!

Only 38 hours to go! It's time to get your boarding pass and start getting ready for our visit to Oregon.

I thought I would give you a heads up of the items I've used for Oregon's souvenir. You do not need to go out and purchase any of these exact items. I just wanted to let you know the things I used in case you did want to try out a few of them or wanted to know what I used and also to make Thursday's post a little shorter. Once you see your souvenir, you may decide to make yours unique and leave off a few things I did or you may choose to do some extra things that I did not.

Included are links to read about most of the products. I randomly searched for the products and included links. I have no association to any of the companies listed. The links are for information purposes only.
Are you ready? I know I know some of you are probably getting sick of me repeating this, but there are still people on the fence about going with us. Please don't miss out on our first stop. Request your passport HERE now. And please don't forget to become a follower as well.

Only 5 Days before we begin our World Adventure - Get your Passport Now!

Are you ready? September 1st is gaining speed and I don't want you to miss out on the first souvenir of our journey. We are starting off in the United States and will be visiting 7 states. After that we will be boarding a plane for destinations thousands of miles away and across beautiful waters.

If you are just checking in and don't know what all the hubbub is about, my name is JoJo Hall and I'm so pleased to be your tour guide and to have you join me for a carefully planned, unique once-in-a-lifetime World Travel Adventure where we will be combining our love of quilting with our love of travel and adventure.

As we travel the globe, you will collect souvenirs from each destination. These are special sewing/quilting souvenirs that I have designed to make our trip both memorable and fun.

My goal is to include as many different techniques as possible so that everyone participating regardless of experience will enjoy the trip and come away with the knowledge and courage to tackle any project he/she desire without fear or reservation of success. Freeing yourself from fear is exhilarating and once you break free, you will never look back.

I make you this promise! If you commit to the journey and making the souvenirs and if you push through even if/when you feel way outside of your comfort zone, I will make sure you succeed. If you run into an obstacle, just let me know and I will personally help you work through it.

Let's start this journey off well and be stubborn about our goals of making each project and let's be flexible about our methods of accomplishing it. So if you are a die-hard hand appliquer, I encourage you to try a few other methods we will be discussing throughout our journey. And, if you are a person who typically gravitates toward 100 percent cotton fabrics, I encourage you to branch out and try specialty fabrics that you've never tried before. Have you ever thought about including paint/crystals, etc.? The skies the limit. The souvenirs are designed size wise to encourage experimenting, and I will gently push you to try different things.

Because a goal without a plan is just a wish, I want you to know that you are in excellent hands. I have our itineraries all mapped out so success and fun is about to begin.

Have you ordered your passport yet? If you haven't, please do so today!

There is no cost to you for the souvenirs but in order to receive them, you must do 2 things:

  1. Become a follower of my blog, and
  2. Request your passport by posting a comment HERE. Don't forget to leave me your email address in the comment or if you don't want to publicly leave your email, please email me directly at jojo(at)jojohall(dot)com.
I have a badge on my blog about the adventure. If you have a blog, please consider adding the badge to your blog so that your friends and followers can join in as well.

New travelers can join us anywhere along our journey and will receive souvenirs for the destination we are currently visiting forward. Previous destinations will be available for purchase on my Craftsy page for those who join us later. So there's the other reason you don't want to delay! Requests made after August 31 will miss out on September's souvenir. I don't want anyone to miss it!

The age old question - wash or no wash?

It's the dreaded question we ask ourselves all the time. Should I wash my beautiful new fabric before putting it into a quilt. It's also a question that stirs up quite a controversy. There are those who see only the white (die hard washers) and those that see only the black (die hard non-washers), and then you have the hybrid folks that see grey (depends on the project, the fabric, the color of fabric, and/or how they feel at the time). I must admit to being a Sybil and having multiple personalities on the subject...black....white...and grey.

I first learned that everything had to be washed so that is what I did. Then I learned that there were advantages to not washing my fabric such as crispness and ease of cutting and I became a non-washer. And then I learned that there are consequences to not washing such as bleeding. Some bleeding occurs even on fabrics that I had pre-washed and thought safe. If you love to buy precuts , you quickly learn that washing those small bits of fabric can leave you with not the right size for your project.

And then there are those folks who MIX pre-washed and non-washed fabrics together in the same project.  GASP!!!  And, yes, I have fallen into that group as well on occasion. I know...I know there is that worry of some shrinking (non washed fabrics) and some not shrinking (pre-washed fabrics) when you do that and you know what....you can use that to your advantage. You just need to know when to use it and again, know that there can be consequences.

So what is a person to do with so many differing views and opinions? Well, unfortunately, I do not have 'the answer.' There is no one, absolute answer. What I can tell you is that you get to decide your threshold of pain/discomfort. If you do not want to worry about bleeding, then pre-wash your fabrics before using them. However, remember I did mention that I have had fabrics bleed that were pre-washed. It happens and I cannot tell you why other than to make me make awful faces and mumbling noises that should not be repeated. Most of the time those type of bleeds are fixable.

I knew this fabric was going to bled. It just had all of my favorite colors all mixed into one. It bled a lot but it stopped after soaking in hot water with Retayne in it and three rinses later.
This fabric was a lightly mottled brown/cream fabric that bled orange. Strange for sure, but it, too, stopped after the washing and rinsing.
So, I'm throwing the question back into your court. Do you wash or not and why?

All of the fabrics you see above are for my September souvenir that becomes available on September 1. Only those who have signed up will receive their souvenirs so don't delay and sign up here.

  1. Become a follower of my blog, and
  2. Leave a comment letting me know you need a passport (don't forget to leave your email addy in the comments section. Bonnie Preslar -- I do not have an email for you and cannot send your passport until I hear back from you. If you prefer to not leave your email publicly, email me directly at jojo(at)jojohall(dot)com.

Now onto the packing! Getting the PDF to you proved to me more than my pay grade. I hate being stumped so I saved it as a jpg. It is shown below.

You don't have to join, just click the download button. Because our adventure is going to take us to a lot of places and we can't possibly pack enough to get us through the entire trip, I am going to start off with the basic items that you will need and then I'll let you know additional items that you can pick up as we travel. Everybody loves shopping while they're traveling, right! You really need only basic general sewing supplies. We'll talk about additional supplies that you might want to purchase as we continue our journey.

We are starting off in my home state of Oregon. It's way too hot here right now so I'm hoping cooler weather will head our way by September. If you haven't seen our destinations, click HERE to see where we are heading.

I've been really busy writing instructions for September's souvenir and can't wait for our journey to begin.

Sneak Peak of our World Destinations - Get your Passport

Choosing our destinations for our adventure has been grueling. Grueling because my initial list would have taken us on a 5-year journey. So while I wanted to take you everywhere, I may have been a little overzealous. After we finish this journey, who knows--maybe we will do it all over again and revisit my original list!

We will start off in the United States, and I have included seven states to visit in our journey.
  1. Oregon
  2. Alaska
  3. Hawaii
  4. Colorado
  5. Arizona
  6. Louisiana
  7. New York
Next, we will travel outside the United States and visit eight nine countries:
  1. Canada
  2. Hawaii
  3. Mexico
  4. Brazil
  5. U.K. (England)
  6. Israel
  7. China
  8. Japan
  9. Australia
Are you excited??? I promise there will be no jet lag so don't worry about all those different time zones.

There is no cost to join us on this adventure, but you do have to request your passport and become a follower of my blog. Please click HERE to learn a little more of our adventure, and sign up on that post so I can get your passport prepared.

Boarding date is September 1.

It's time to request your World Passport!

In my last post, I mentioned at the end of my post about an adventure that I am in the process of mapping out. We will travel the globe all from the comfort of your home. There will be many souvenirs for you to make. I'm in the process of designing them now.

It's going to be a great time, and I am excited to be your tour guide. We will start off in my own state (Oregon), and preboarding is September 1.

However, before you can travel, you 'must' first request your personal passport. Each month, I will add a link-up post where you will add your post so that others can see your finished souvenir. Each traveler that finishes their souvenir and participates in the link-up post will receive a a stamp for your passport.

As I mentioned in my last blog post:
  • we will visit lots of places (techniques)
  • we will take part in many sights and sounds (fabrics/sewing)
  • we will savor the tastes (quilting) from each of the places we visit
The cost for admission has only two requirements:
  1. Become a follower of my blog
  2. Leave me a comment requesting your passport.
Please include your email address in the post (many people cannot be responded to because your email is not shown). I can't send your passport if I don't know where to send it!

If you left a post on the last post, you do not have to repost your information again.
